Chapter 2 - THE RETURN OF THE QUEEN

Two years passed.
The luxury ballroom of the Grand Regent Hotel was ablaze with sparkling chandeliers and high-society elites. Richard Vance and Julian Vance stood at the center of the hall, clinking champagne glasses with city officials and real estate tycoons. Over the last two years, without Eleanor’s sharp financial mind, Vance Enterprises had secretly fallen into massive debt. To save themselves, Richard and Julian had orchestrated a high-stakes merger with Sterling Global, the largest and most ruthless investment conglomerate in North America.
Tonight was the grand signing ceremony.
"Ladies and gentlemen," Julian boomed into the microphone, his suit crisp and his ego bloated. "Tonight, Vance Enterprises merges with Sterling Global! We welcome the brilliant CEO of Sterling Global, Ms. Maya Sterling!"
The heavy oak doors of the ballroom swung open. A young, commanding woman in an immaculate emerald silk suit walked into the room. Her presence was magnetic, her eyes sharp as flint. But as the crowd applauded, the room suddenly went dead silent when they noticed the woman walking beside her.
Draped in a regal tailored ivory gown, her hair styled in elegant silver waves, holding her head up with absolute majesty, was Eleanor Vance.
Richard dropped his champagne glass, the crystal shattering across the floor. Julian froze, his face draining of all color. Chloe, standing in a diamond necklace bought with stolen company funds, gasped in horror.
"Eleanor?!" Richard stammered, stepping forward. "What is the meaning of this? How did you get in here? Security! Escort this crazy woman out!"
"Touch her, and I will tear down every property you own before midnight," Maya Sterling’s voice rang out like thunder through the hall.
Julian glared at Maya, confused and furious. "Ms. Sterling! Do not let this woman deceive you! She is my estranged, mentally ill mother who ruined our family business years ago!"
Eleanor stepped forward, her heels echoing against the marble floor. Her gaze was as cold as steel, looking at the two men who had thrown her into the rain two years ago.
"I didn't ruin your business, Julian," Eleanor said, her voice smooth, powerful, and utterly devoid of fear. "You and your father ruined it through incompetence, greed, and arrogance. You thought leaving me in the mud was the end of Eleanor Vance. You forgot that I was the one who wrote the foundations of every contract you ever signed."
"You have no power here!" Chloe shrieked, stepping up beside Julian. "The house is ours! The company is ours! You’re just a washed-up bitter old hag!"
Maya Sterling smiled—a cold, terrifying smile—and pulled a leather-bound audit file from her leather briefcase.
"Is that so, Chloe?" Maya said, stepping right into Chloe's personal space. "Or should I call you Sarah Jenkins, wanted in three states for wire fraud, identity theft, and corporate embezzlement?"
The room gasped. Chloe’s face turned ghostly white.
"What?" Julian stuttered, looking at Chloe, then at Maya. "What are you talking about?!"
"Two years ago, when you threw my mother out onto the streets in the rain, she collapsed near my residence," Maya revealed, her voice shaking with restrained emotion. "I rescued her. And when she woke up, she was wearing a silver locket... a locket identical to the one given to me at the orphanage when I was kidnapped twenty-five years ago."
Maya reached into her neck and pulled out a matching silver locket, opening it to reveal the identical baby photo and the crescent birthmark on her shoulder.

"Lily..." Richard whispered, his eyes wide in absolute horror.
"My name is Maya Sterling Vance," Maya declared proudly, taking Eleanor’s hand in hers. "The daughter you abandoned, the daughter my mother spent twenty-five years searching for! And for the past two years, my mother and I have been buying up ninety-five percent of Vance Enterprises' debt through dummy corporations!"
