Chapter 1 - THROWN TO THE WOLVES

"Pack your trash and get off my property, old woman! You don’t own a single blade of grass here anymore!"

The words slashed through the freezing evening rain like broken glass. Julian stood on the marble porch of the sprawling Vance Estate, throwing heavy black trash bags down the stone steps. Beside him stood his father, Richard, wearing a cold, indifferent smirk as he held hands with Chloe—a stunning 24-year-old woman who had entered Eleanor’s life three years ago as her trusted personal assistant, only to become Julian’s fiancée... and secretly, Richard’s hidden mistress.

Eleanor Vance stood in the pouring rain, her clothes soaked, her body trembling from icy wind and pure shock. For thirty-five years, she had given every drop of her blood, sweat, and tear to build Vance Enterprises from a struggling local business into a multi-million-dollar empire. She had stood by Richard when he had nothing. She had poured endless love and devotion into raising Julian, shielding him from every hardship after her heart was shattered twenty-five years ago by the horrific kidnapping of her infant baby girl, Lily.

"Julian... Richard... how can you do this?" Eleanor’s voice broke as she tried to grasp the rain-slicked steps. "I built this house! I built this company! I bought you that car, Julian! I paid off your debts!"

Julian let out a cruel, booming laugh that echoed across the empty courtyard. "You built it? Look at the land title, mother! Father signed over full ownership of the house and the enterprise to Chloe and me this morning. You’re sixty years old, obsolete, and mentally unstable. Nobody wants a bitter old hag ruining the family reputation."

"She’s right, Eleanor," Richard chimed in, his tone dripping with fake pity as he pulled Chloe closer. "You’ve spent twenty-five years obsessing over a dead infant, crying over phantom memories, neglecting your duties as a wife. Chloe brings life to this home. She’s young, brilliant, and actually knows how to keep a man happy. Hand over your ring and your private safe key, and get out before I call security to arrest you for trespassing."

Chloe stepped forward, her red lips curling into a wicked smile. She reached into her designer handbag, pulled out a stack of paper bills, and tossed them into the muddy puddle right at Eleanor’s feet. "Here’s a hundred bucks for a motel room, Eleanor. Consider it a severance package for all your hard work raising my future husband."

"You monstrous snakes!" Eleanor gasped, her chest heaving as tears mixed with the downpour. "I trusted you, Chloe! I brought you into my home like a daughter! And Julian... I am your mother!"

"A mother who gave away my inheritance to search for a ghost!" Julian snarled, shoving Eleanor back so hard that she stumbled into the mud, her knees scraping against the gravel. "Get lost, Eleanor. If I see your face on this street tomorrow, I’m filing a restraining order."

With a slam of the massive mahogany front doors, the lights of the grand mansion illuminated the rain, casting Eleanor in total darkness. She lay on the cold ground, her breath ragged, her palms bleeding against the sharp stones. Wrapped around her shivering neck was the only item they hadn't managed to strip from her: a tarnished silver locket containing the faint, fading photograph of her missing infant daughter, Lily, and a small, distinct crescent-shaped birthmark drawn on the back.

As the storm raged, Eleanor gathered her broken strength, clutching the locket tightly against her chest. Her tears turned from grief into a searing, white-hot fire. She had lost her husband, lost her son, and lost her home—but deep within her shattered heart, a flame of absolute vengeance sparked to life.
