Chapter 7 - The Man Who Held The Missing Truth

The door at the end of the hallway opened.

I saw Isabella standing there.

But she wasn't alone.

A man stood behind her.

His hand was resting on her shoulder.

And she looked terrified.

"Daniel..."

Her voice was shaking.

"Don't come closer."

I stopped.

My heart was beating faster than ever.

Because I had spent the last few hours searching for her.

Fearing she was hurt.

Fearing I would never see her again.

But now...

She was standing in front of me.

And she was afraid of someone beside her.

I looked at the man behind her.

I couldn't see his face clearly.

The hallway was dark.

"Let her go."

The man didn't move.

Instead, he smiled.

A calm smile.

Like he had expected me to come.

"Daniel."

My body froze.

Because I knew that voice.

Not from the video.

Not from the past.

From my own home.

From family dinners.

From conversations where I thought I was surrounded by people who loved me.

I stepped forward.

"Who are you?"

The man slowly moved into the light.

And everything inside me stopped.

My father.

He was standing there.

Not Richard.

Not a stranger.

My father.

The man who had spent my entire life protecting his secrets.

The man who lied about my mother.

The man who knew Isabella was missing.

I looked at Isabella.

She looked at me with tears in her eyes.

"Daniel, please listen to me."

My father interrupted.

"She has been manipulating you."

I stared at him.

"After everything?"

He sighed.

"You don't understand what she found."

"No."

I shook my head.

"I understand perfectly."

I pointed at him.

"You lied about my mother."

Silence.

"You lied about my birth."

Silence.

"You lied about Isabella."

His expression changed.

Only slightly.

But I saw it.

Fear.

"Where is Richard?"

I asked.

My father looked away.

That answer was enough.

He knew.

"You knew he was alive."

My father didn't deny it.

"Yes."

The word hit harder than I expected.

I laughed quietly.

"How many more things?"

He looked at me.

"Daniel..."

"How many?"

Nobody answered.

Then Isabella stepped away from him.

Slowly.

My father grabbed her arm.

Not hard.

But enough.

Enough for me to see.

Enough for me to understand.

"Don't touch her."

My voice became cold.

My father released her.

"You're making a mistake."

I looked at Isabella.

"Are you okay?"

She nodded.

But her eyes told me something else.

She was scared.

Not of my father.

Of something bigger.

"Daniel."

She whispered.

"You need to know the truth before he changes everything."

My father looked at her.

"Stop."

She ignored him.

"Your father didn't just hide your mother."

She looked at me.

"He hid the reason she disappeared."

I felt my chest tighten.

"What reason?"

My father stepped forward.

"Because she was dangerous."

I looked at him.

"No."

My father shook his head.

"You still believe everyone is innocent."

He pointed at Richard.

"Ask him why he disappeared."

I looked toward the doorway.

Richard was standing there.

Silent.

Watching.

My entire life had become a room full of people who knew the truth except me.

I turned to him.

"Tell me."

Richard looked at my father.

Then at me.

"Daniel..."

"Tell me."

He took a breath.

"Your mother discovered something."

"What?"

"Something about your father."

My father's face changed.

"Don't."

Richard continued.

"She discovered he wasn't protecting the family."

A pause.

"He was protecting himself."

I looked at my father.

"What did she find?"

Nobody answered.

Then Richard said:

"The company."

I frowned.

"What about it?"

Richard looked at me.

"The company wasn't built by your father."

I waited.

"It belonged to your real family."

I didn't understand.

"My real family?"

Richard nodded.

"Your mother came from a family that owned everything before your father took control."

I stared at him.

"That's impossible."

"No."

Richard looked at my father.

"It's the reason he married her."

The room became silent.

I looked at my father.

"Is that true?"

My father didn't answer.

Again.

Always silence.

But this time...

I didn't need words.

Because his silence was a confession.

Later that night, Isabella and I sat inside an abandoned office room in the building.

Richard had given us space.

My father was gone.

But I knew this wasn't over.

Isabella held my hand.

"I'm sorry."

I looked at her.

"For what?"

"For not telling you."

I shook my head.

"You were trying to protect me."

She looked down.

"I was trying to protect our baby."

I touched her stomach carefully.

Our child.

The one person in this entire mess who had no idea how many lies surrounded them.

"What happened that night?"

I asked.

"The night you disappeared."

Isabella took a deep breath.

"I found the original records."

"Where?"

"In your grandfather's hidden archive."

"The basement."

She nodded.

"I found documents proving your father changed everything."

"Changed what?"

"Your inheritance."

I stared at her.

"He stole it?"

"Yes."

She looked at me.

"But that's not why he was afraid."

"What was he afraid of?"

Her eyes filled with fear.

"Because your mother left proof."

"What proof?"

"A recording."

I remembered the video.

The one that stopped before the name.

"She knew who your real father was."

I looked at Isabella.

"Richard?"

She nodded.

"But Richard wasn't the only person in the video."

I froze.

"What?"

She looked toward the door.

"Someone else was there."

"Who?"

She didn't answer.

Instead, she reached into her bag.

And pulled out a small envelope.

"I found this hidden with the recording."

My name was written on it.

Again.

Daniel.

I opened it.

Inside was a letter.

My mother's handwriting.

Daniel,

If you are reading this, then you have already discovered the first lie.

But there is another truth you must know.

The man you call your father did not act alone.

I stopped.

My hands trembled.

Isabella looked at me.

"What does it say?"

I continued reading.

The person who helped him destroy my life is someone you have trusted since childhood.

I looked up.

My mind immediately searched through every face.

Every person.

Every memory.

Then the final sentence caught my attention.

I read it again.

And again.

Because it was impossible.

No.

It couldn't be.

Isabella saw my expression.

"Daniel?"

I slowly turned the letter toward her.

She read the name.

Her face went pale.

Because she knew.

She had met this person too.

Then my phone vibrated.

A new message.

Unknown number.

Only three words.

"Look behind you."

I froze.

Isabella looked at me.

"Daniel..."

The room became silent.

Slowly...

May you like

I turned around.

And standing in the doorway was the person my mother had warned me about.
