Chapter 1 - The Night I Discovered My Husband's Betrayal

A pregnant woman stood frozen outside a private room, whispering: "How could you do this to me?" When crime boss Alessandro Castellano arrived, he found a broken necklace that belonged to his wife. But three words were engraved inside the pendant: "Never forget me." Alessandro suddenly realized his wife knew everything.

I never imagined the sound of my own heart breaking could be louder than a gunshot.

That night, I was eight months pregnant and still believed I was the luckiest woman alive.

I had spent years convincing myself that beneath Alessandro Castellano's cold reputation, there was a man only I knew.

The world called him dangerous.

They said his name was enough to make powerful men lower their voices.

They said nobody betrayed Alessandro Castellano and lived long enough to regret it.

But when he came home every night, he would kneel beside me, place his hand on my stomach, and whisper to our unborn child.

"Your father will protect you."

I believed him.

I believed every word.

That was my mistake.

Because the man who promised to protect our child was the same man who destroyed my heart.

I still remembered that evening clearly.

I had been sitting in the doctor's office earlier that day, holding the first ultrasound picture of our baby.

Alessandro had promised he would come.

He always promised.

But he never arrived.

His assistant told me there was an urgent business matter.

I wasn't angry.

I understood the world he lived in.

Or at least, I thought I did.

So I decided to surprise him.

I drove to the mansion where he often handled private meetings.

I carried a small gift box in my hands.

Inside was a tiny silver bracelet for our baby.

I wanted to tell him the doctor said our child was healthy.

I wanted to see his smile.

I wanted one perfect moment before our lives changed forever.

But when I walked through those doors, I heard something I was never supposed to hear.

A woman's laugh.

Soft.

Familiar.

My steps stopped.

At first, I told myself it was impossible.

Maybe it was one of his employees.

Maybe I misunderstood.

Maybe my pregnancy hormones were making me imagine things.

Then I heard her voice.

"Sandro, you promised me you would choose me."

My fingers tightened around the gift box.

Because I knew that voice.

It belonged to my sister.

Isabella.

The person I had trusted since childhood.

The person who had held my hand when our parents died.

The person who cried with me when I married Alessandro.

The person who looked into my eyes and told me she was happy for me.

I slowly moved closer.

The door was slightly open.

And through that small gap...

I saw my husband.

His hands were around my sister's waist.

His lips were on hers.

For several seconds, my mind refused to understand what my eyes were seeing.

Alessandro Castellano.

My husband.

The father of my child.

The man who told me I was the only woman he would ever love.

Was kissing another woman.

My own sister.

I couldn't breathe.

I couldn't move.

I just stood there with one hand covering my stomach, feeling my baby move inside me while the person I trusted most destroyed everything around me.

Then Isabella whispered something that made my blood turn cold.

"She still thinks you love her."

Alessandro didn't answer immediately.

That silence hurt more than anything.

Because silence meant he had no excuse.

Then he said something I would remember for the rest of my life.

"She was never supposed to find out."

My hand slowly moved away from the door.

The gift box fell from my fingers.

The tiny bracelet inside hit the marble floor.

Neither of them heard it.

Or maybe they didn't care.

I walked away before they could see me.

I didn't cry.

Not then.

I didn't scream.

I didn't confront them.

Because something inside me had changed.

The woman who entered that mansion believing she had a family was gone.

I returned home and sat alone in the dark.

I looked around the nursery we had prepared.

The small bed.

The toys.

The photographs.

Everything represented a future I thought was real.

I placed my hand on my stomach.

"Your mother will protect you."

I whispered those words to my baby.

For the first time, I wasn't thinking about saving my marriage.

I was thinking about escaping it.

Because Alessandro Castellano wasn't just a cheating husband.

He was a powerful man surrounded by secrets.

And now I was carrying the one thing he could never control.

His child.

The next morning, Alessandro came home like nothing happened.

He entered our bedroom, removed his jacket, and looked at me.

"You were awake?"

I stared at him.

I searched his face for guilt.

For regret.

For anything.

But I found nothing.

"I couldn't sleep."

He walked closer.

"You should rest. The baby needs you healthy."

The words almost made me laugh.

The baby needs me healthy.

As if he hadn't broken the family he claimed he wanted.

As if I hadn't watched him betray me hours earlier.

I looked at the man standing in front of me.

The man everyone feared.

The man who controlled businesses, people, and entire cities.

But he didn't know that I already knew the truth.

"I went to your office yesterday."

His expression changed for half a second.

Only half a second.

But I saw it.

"What did you see?"

The question came too quickly.

I almost smiled.

Because he had just revealed himself.

I looked away.

"Nothing important."

Alessandro studied me carefully.

He was a man trained to notice lies.

And I knew he sensed something was wrong.

But he didn't know how much I knew.

He didn't know I had heard his voice.

He didn't know I had seen Isabella's hand on his chest.

He didn't know I had already started planning my escape.

Three days later, my daughter was born.

I gave birth without Alessandro beside me.

He arrived hours later with flowers and a perfect excuse.

"A business emergency."

The same excuse.

The same lie.

I looked at him holding our daughter.

For a moment, I saw the man I used to love.

The father I wanted him to be.

Then I remembered Isabella.

I remembered his words.

She was never supposed to find out.

After leaving the hospital, I made a decision.

I disappeared.

I took my daughter and left the city.

I didn't tell Alessandro where I went.

I didn't tell anyone.

I only trusted one person.

A former employee of my father who had helped me create a new identity.

For three months, I lived quietly.

No luxury.

No bodyguards.

No mansion.

Just me and my daughter.

I thought I had escaped.

I was wrong.

Because Alessandro Castellano had finally found me.

The message arrived at midnight.

Unknown number.

Three words.

"He knows where."

My hands trembled.

I looked at my sleeping daughter.

Then another message appeared.

"Leave before sunrise."

I stared at the screen.

Because I knew only one person would dare warn me before Alessandro arrived.

The one man my husband feared more than anyone.

A man whose name was whispered in the criminal world.

A man who had spent years trying to destroy Alessandro Castellano.

Then my phone rang.

I answered slowly.

A deep voice spoke from the other end.

"Nadine Castellano."

I froze.

Nobody had called me that name in months.

"Who are you?"

A pause.

Then the man said:

"The man who is about to save your life."

I looked toward the window.

The street outside was empty.

But when I pulled back the curtain...

A black car was already parked in front of my house.

May you like

And the man standing beside it was the last person I expected to see.

Because he was Alessandro Castellano's greatest rival.
