Chapter 13 - The Trap Gideon Set

"Gabriel?"

Norah turned.

Gabriel had been downstairs.

Hadn't he?

The man in the study smiled.

Then Norah saw the scar.

Not Gabriel.

A mask.

Rafael ripped it away.

Dr. Mercer stood underneath.

Gideon's gun came up.

"Interesting choice."

Mercer raised his hands.

"You need me."

"People keep saying that."

Mercer had returned for one reason.

The master server.

Anthony had hidden evidence inside Gideon's own network.

Mercer had been trying to retrieve it.

"Why wear Gabriel's face?" Norah asked.

"To move through facial recognition."

Rafael looked impressed despite himself.

Gideon wasn't.

"Where's Anthony?"

Mercer gave them an address.

This time, Gideon didn't rush.

He set a trap.

Information was deliberately leaked that Gideon would leave the estate alone with the evidence.

Anthony took the bait.

At midnight, an armored sedan departed.

Anthony's men followed.

The vehicle entered an abandoned warehouse.

Then the doors sealed.

Floodlights came on.

Gideon's men surrounded them.

Anthony stepped from the shadows.

"Where is he?"

A voice answered behind him.

"Here."

Gideon emerged.

Norah watched from the control room with Rafael.

Anthony realized immediately.

"You've learned."

"From a maid."

Gideon almost smiled.

Anthony laughed.

"All this because she noticed a glass."

"No."

Gideon's voice hardened.

"All this because everyone else thought she was too insignificant to notice anything."

Anthony's men surrendered.

Anthony didn't.

He pulled a detonator.

Norah saw it on camera.

"Gideon!"

Anthony pressed the button.

Nothing happened.

Gideon held up the batteries.

"Looking for these?"

Anthony stared.

Norah laughed despite the danger.

Rafael looked at her.

"Your idea."

"Housekeeping notices when things are missing."

Gideon arrested Anthony without firing a shot.

But as they prepared to leave, Anthony whispered:

"You think you've won?"

Gideon stopped.

"Gabriel poisoned you."

"I know."

"Samuel created it."

"I know."

"Your father started it."

"I know."

Anthony smiled.

"But you still don't know why Evelyn Blake was killed."

Norah stepped closer.

"Why?"

Anthony looked at her.

"Because she discovered what your mother left you."

"My mother left me debt."

"No."

He laughed.

"She left you something worth more than Gideon's entire estate."

Norah stared.

"Where?"

Anthony looked toward Gideon.

"Ask his father."

"He's dead."

Anthony smiled wider.

"Then ask the man who buried him."

Gideon went still.

Rafael's expression changed.

Norah noticed.

"Rafael?"

He didn't answer.

"Who buried Gideon's father?"

May you like

Rafael slowly looked at Gideon.

"I did."
