Chapter 6 - The Daughter Hidden in the Records

The photograph landed on the table.
Nobody touched it.
Nobody wanted to be the first person to pick it up.
Because everyone in that room understood something had changed.
This was no longer about a poisoned wound.
It was no longer about a fake surgeon.
It was no longer about someone trying to kill Gabriel Falcone.
It was about a secret that had survived for decades.
Ellen Miller stood inside the mansion library.
Alive.
Older.
Tired.
But standing.
Sadi could barely look away from her.
Every part of her wanted to run toward the woman she had buried.
Every part of her was afraid to move.
Because sometimes the thing you want most is also the thing that can destroy everything you believed.
“Mom…”
The word came out like a child’s whisper.
Ellen’s eyes filled with tears.
But she did not move.
Not yet.
Because she knew the room around them was full of people who could turn a family reunion into a battlefield.
Gabriel watched silently from the medical bed.
His expression was unreadable.
But Sadi noticed his hand.
The same hand that had signed billion-dollar deals.
The same hand that had held weapons.
It was shaking.
Only slightly.
But it was shaking.
“Why didn’t you come back?”
Sadi asked.
Her voice broke.
Ellen closed her eyes.
“I tried.”
The answer was simple.
Too simple.
Sadi stared at her.
“You tried?”
“Yes.”
“For six years?”
Ellen looked down.
“I was protecting you.”
Sadi laughed quietly.
Not because it was funny.
Because it hurt.
“Protecting me from what?”
Nobody answered.
Then Gabriel spoke.
“From us.”
Everyone turned.
Ellen looked at him.
And for the first time, anger appeared on her face.
“You finally understand.”
Gabriel’s eyes hardened.
“No.”
His voice was low.
“I want the truth.”
Ellen looked at the photograph on the table.
“The truth is why your father disappeared.”
The entire room became still.
Gabriel had spent ten years searching for answers.
Ten years believing his father had been taken by enemies.
Ten years building an empire partly because he refused to be powerless again.
And now the woman who held the missing pieces was standing five feet away.
“What happened to him?”
Ellen looked toward the window.
“He found something.”
“What?”
“Records.”
Gabriel stared.
“What records?”
“The kind that powerful people kill to erase.”
Carmine stepped forward.
“You expect us to believe your story after disappearing for years?”
Ellen looked at him.
“I expect you to believe the evidence.”
She reached inside her coat.
Every guard immediately reacted.
But Gabriel raised his hand.
“Let her.”
Ellen slowly removed a small envelope.
Old.
Damaged.
The edges were burned.
She placed it beside the photograph.
“Your father gave this to me the night before he disappeared.”
Gabriel looked at the envelope.
“Why you?”
“Because he trusted me.”
A pause.
“And because he knew someone inside his own organization was watching him.”
The sentence hit harder than expected.
Carmine’s face changed.
“Someone inside?”
Ellen nodded.
“Someone close.”
Nobody spoke.
Gabriel looked at Carmine.
Not accusing.
Not yet.
But questioning.
And Carmine noticed.
“Boss.”
Gabriel looked away.
“Open the envelope.”
Ellen shook her head.
“Not here.”
Gabriel frowned.
“Why?”
“Because the person who poisoned you is still inside this house.”
The room went silent.
Dr. Cole looked around.
The guards checked each other.
Nobody trusted anyone anymore.
Sadi looked at her mother.
“How do you know?”
Ellen’s eyes moved toward Gabriel.
“Because the same person who killed your first doctor tried to kill me.”
Gabriel became still.
“What?”
Ellen continued.
“Six years ago, I discovered they were searching for something your father hid.”
“What?”
She looked at Sadi.
“The records.”
Sadi felt cold.
“The records were with my mother?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because your mother was the only person your father believed would not sell them.”
Gabriel looked confused.
“Why would he trust Ellen over everyone else?”
Ellen looked at him.
“Because your father knew the people around him were loyal to the Falcone name.”
A pause.
“But Ellen was loyal to the truth.”
The words stayed in the room.
Sadi looked at the photograph again.
The child in the picture.
The necklace.
The symbol.
Something about it felt familiar.
“Who is the girl?”
Nobody answered.
Ellen looked at her.
Then at Gabriel.
“She is the reason everything happened.”
Gabriel’s voice became sharper.
“Who is she?”
Ellen took a breath.
“She was supposed to inherit everything.”
Carmine frowned.
“Everything?”
“The company.”
“The records.”
“The information your father spent his life protecting.”
Gabriel stared.
“You’re saying a child was the reason my father disappeared?”
“No.”
Ellen’s voice softened.
“I’m saying someone wanted that child erased.”
Sadi felt her heartbeat change.
Because suddenly she realized.
The girl in the photograph was not just connected to Gabriel.
She was connected to her.
The necklace.
The symbol.
Her mother’s warnings.
Everything was leading to the same secret.
“Mom.”
Ellen looked at her.
“Who was she?”
Ellen did not answer immediately.
That scared Sadi more than anything.
Because her mother had always been honest with her.
Even when the truth hurt.
But now she looked afraid.
Finally, Ellen whispered:
“Her name was Sofia.”
Gabriel frowned.
“I don’t know anyone named Sofia.”
Ellen looked at him.
“You were never supposed to.”
A heavy silence followed.
Then Gabriel noticed something.
The photograph.
The child was not standing beside his father alone.
There was another person in the background.
A woman.
Holding the child’s hand.
Gabriel leaned closer.
The pain in his shoulder disappeared compared to the shock on his face.
Because he recognized the woman.
“She…”
His voice stopped.
Carmine looked at him.
“Boss?”
Gabriel stared at the photograph.
“No.”
He shook his head.
“That’s impossible.”
Sadi looked between them.
“Who is she?”
Gabriel did not answer.
Because the woman in the photograph was someone he had spent years believing was gone.
Someone whose death had shaped his entire life.
Someone connected to the night his father vanished.
Ellen whispered:
“She was the first person they tried to erase.”
The library doors suddenly slammed shut.
Everyone turned.
A guard rushed toward them.
But before he reached the handle, every phone in the room received the same message.
One by one.
A single notification.
Gabriel looked at his screen.
His face changed.
Because the message contained only three words.
“Ask Carmine why.”
May you like
The entire room turned slowly toward Carmine.
And Carmine stepped backward because he recognized the sender…
