Chapter 6 - The Message From My Wife’s Phone

A phone screen lit up in the darkness and a voice whispered: "Roman, if you trust her, you will lose everything."

I grabbed the device and found Naomi’s phone covered in fresh fingerprints.

One message was still open: "She was never alone."

I finally understood someone had been controlling the truth from the beginning.

The room stayed silent after the message appeared.

Nobody moved.

Nobody spoke.

I stared at the screen.

Naomi’s phone.

Naomi’s number.

Naomi’s words.

But there was no way Naomi had sent that message.

Because Naomi was standing in front of me.

Alive.

I looked at her.

Then at the phone.

Then back at her.

"Explain."

My voice was calm.

Too calm.

Everyone in the room knew what that meant.

When I was angry, people heard it.

When I was dangerous, people felt it.

Naomi took a step forward.

"Roman..."

"Don't."

She stopped.

I held up the phone.

"This came from your number."

Her eyes filled with pain.

"I know."

"Then tell me why."

She looked down.

And that hesitation hurt more than the message.

Because it meant there was something she still wasn't telling me.

Adrian stepped between us.

"Roman, you need to understand."

I looked at him.

"No."

My voice hardened.

"I have spent days finding out that my wife was alive, that she had a secret brother, that my father-in-law was supposedly dead but wasn't, and that someone has been manipulating my family."

I pointed at the phone.

"And now I receive a message from my wife's phone telling me not to trust her."

I looked around the room.

"Everyone has an explanation."

I took a breath.

"But nobody has the truth."

Nobody answered.

Then Naomi spoke.

"You deserve the truth."

I looked at her.

"Yes."

Her eyes became wet.

"But you may hate me after hearing it."

The words were painful.

Because I realized Naomi wasn't afraid of losing my trust.

She was afraid I would understand why she lied.

"Tell me."

She sat down slowly.

"My father didn't disappear five years ago."

I already knew that.

But hearing it from her made it real.

"He planned everything."

She looked at Adrian.

"When I found out I was pregnant, I discovered he was still controlling people inside our organization."

My eyes narrowed.

"Who?"

Naomi looked away.

"People close to us."

The answer was too vague.

I stood.

"Names."

She swallowed.

"I can't give you names yet."

I almost laughed.

"After everything, you still can't?"

Her face broke.

"Because if I say the name, they will know I told you."

The room went quiet.

Adrian looked at me.

"She's telling the truth."

I turned toward him.

"You knew?"

He nodded.

"I knew someone inside your circle was reporting information."

"And you didn't tell me?"

"I tried."

"When?"

"The night Naomi disappeared."

I stared at him.

"What happened that night?"

Adrian looked at Naomi.

She closed her eyes.

Like she had been carrying this memory alone for too long.

"I was supposed to meet Adrian."

She spoke quietly.

"I wanted him to help me expose my father."

My chest tightened.

"But someone followed me."

She continued.

"They knew where I was going."

The pieces started connecting.

Someone knew her plans.

Someone knew about the pregnancy.

Someone knew about the meeting.

"Who followed you?"

Naomi looked at me.

"I don't know."

A pause.

"Because I never saw their face."

I looked toward the window.

The old building.

The hidden room.

The fake death.

Everything was built around one person staying invisible.

Then I remembered Sabrina.

The woman who smiled after Naomi died.

The woman who moved into my house.

The woman who knew about the twins.

"Where is Sabrina?"

Nobody answered.

I looked at Adrian.

"Where is she?"

His expression changed.

"Roman..."

"Where is she?"

Naomi looked nervous.

"She isn't the person you think she is."

I turned toward my wife.

"Then who is she?"

Naomi hesitated.

And that was enough.

I walked toward the door.

"Roman."

I stopped.

Naomi whispered:

"Please."

I turned.

For the first time since seeing her alive, I saw the woman I knew.

Not the person hiding secrets.

Not the person protecting herself.

My wife.

The woman who was scared.

"I never stopped loving you."

The words hit me.

Because I knew she meant them.

But love didn't erase betrayal.

"I spent days believing I buried you."

Her tears fell.

"I know."

"I stood beside your coffin."

She closed her eyes.

"I know."

"And you watched me suffer."

Her voice broke.

"I was trying to keep you alive."

I looked away.

Because part of me wanted to forgive her.

But another part wanted answers.

Then Adrian's phone rang.

He answered.

His face changed instantly.

"What?"

He listened.

Then looked at me.

"We need to leave."

"Why?"

He ended the call.

"Because your estate was attacked."

My expression changed.

"What?"

He showed me the security alert.

A live image appeared.

My home.

My house.

The place where Naomi and I built our life.

The camera showed armed men entering.

I felt something cold inside me.

"They're looking for something."

I looked at Naomi.

"What?"

She whispered:

"The twins."

Everything stopped.

"They know?"

She nodded.

"They always knew."

My hands tightened.

"No."

Naomi stepped closer.

"Roman."

I looked at her.

"If they want my children..."

My voice lowered.

"They come through me first."

Adrian grabbed his jacket.

"We need to move now."

We left the building through the back entrance.

The entire drive was silent.

My mind was racing.

Sabrina.

My father-in-law.

The twins.

The person inside my family.

Everything was connected.

When we reached the estate, I immediately saw something wrong.

The gates were open.

The security lights were off.

No guards.

No movement.

Too quiet.

I stepped out of the car.

Adrian looked around.

"This isn't right."

I walked toward the front door.

My house.

My home.

The place where I thought I knew everyone.

The door was unlocked.

I entered slowly.

The inside was destroyed.

Pictures broken.

Furniture overturned.

Files scattered everywhere.

Someone had searched the entire house.

But they weren't looking for money.

They were looking for something specific.

Naomi walked behind me.

Then she stopped.

Her face turned pale.

"Roman..."

I looked at her.

She pointed toward the staircase.

A small object was lying on the floor.

A baby bracelet.

One of the bracelets Naomi bought before she disappeared.

I picked it up.

My hands shook.

Then I noticed something written inside.

Not Naomi's handwriting.

Someone else's.

A single word.

"Found."

Suddenly, my phone vibrated.

Unknown number.

I opened the message.

A photo appeared.

Two tiny hospital bracelets.

One for each baby.

Underneath them was a note.

"Come to the old family house if you want to know where your children really are."

I looked at Naomi.

She was already crying.

"Roman..."

I looked at the address.

My blood turned cold.

Because I knew that place.

Everyone in the family knew that place.

It was where Naomi’s father had disappeared.

I stepped toward the door.

Then my phone received one final message.

"Bring Naomi."

I froze.

Because the sender wasn't unknown.

The name appeared on the screen.

May you like

It was from...

Naomi’s dead father.
