Chapter 1 - The Girl Who Fell Into the Mafia Boss’s Arms

A young woman slipped across the flooded marble floor, whispering:
"Please don't let me get fired."
When Mafia boss Adrien Moretti entered the meeting room, he found a broken mop handle beside the ruined conference table.
But three words were carved into the wood:
"She knows everything."
Adrien suddenly realized this wasn't just a cleaning accident.
My name was Maya Collins, and before that night, I had spent my entire life believing that some problems were too big to fix.
A leaking pipe.
A damaged floor.
A room full of dangerous men.
A boss who could destroy someone’s life with a single sentence.
Those were exactly the kinds of problems people like me were supposed to avoid.
But I had never been good at walking away.
Especially when someone was counting on me.
The clock on the wall had just passed 8:17 p.m. when I heard the sound.
A crack.
Not a normal crack.
The kind of sound that made your stomach drop before your brain even understood what happened.
I was carrying a bucket of cleaning supplies through the west hallway of the Moretti mansion when water suddenly burst through the ceiling above me.
For three seconds, I just stood there.
Watching.
A stream of water poured down onto the expensive marble floor.
Then another.
Then another.
And within moments, the hallway that cost more than my entire apartment building had become a disaster.
"No, no, no..."
I dropped the cleaning cloth and ran toward the source.
The pipe above the private conference room had broken.
Of course it had.
The one room in the entire mansion where nobody was allowed to make a mistake.
The one room where Adrien Moretti held meetings with people who looked like they belonged in movies about criminals.
I grabbed the mop.
I grabbed the bucket.
And I started fighting a flood that was winning.
Nobody had told me to save the mansion.
Nobody had asked me to be brave.
My job was simple.
Clean.
Leave.
Stay invisible.
That was how people like me survived around people like Adrien Moretti.
I had been working at the mansion for six months.
Six months of polishing floors that cost more than cars.
Six months of avoiding conversations.
Six months of learning that silence was the safest language inside those walls.
Everyone knew who Adrien Moretti was.
They said he was ruthless.
They said he never forgave betrayal.
They said people who crossed him disappeared from his world overnight.
I never knew which stories were true.
I only knew one thing.
When Adrien Moretti walked into a room, everyone stopped talking.
So I had always made sure he never noticed me.
Until that night.
The water continued spreading.
I pushed harder against the floor.
"Come on..."
My arms were shaking.
My shoes were soaked.
My white cleaning blouse was already wet from the splashing water.
I looked ridiculous.
A woman with a mop trying to defeat a disaster created inside a billionaire mafia boss's mansion.
But I couldn't stop.
Because if the water reached the downstairs hallway, the damage would be impossible to hide.
And if Adrien Moretti found out I had failed...
I didn't even want to imagine it.
Then I heard voices.
Deep voices.
Multiple voices.
My hands froze.
The conference room door opened.
Eight men stepped out.
All wearing black suits.
All watching me.
They weren't employees.
They weren't guests.
They were the kind of men who made a room feel smaller just by standing inside it.
I knew exactly who they were.
Adrien Moretti's security team.
For a moment, nobody spoke.
One of them looked at the water.
Then at me.
Then at the mop in my hand.
"You've got to be kidding."
I lowered my eyes.
"I'm fixing it."
The man gave a humorless laugh.
"You're making it worse."
Maybe he was right.
Maybe I was.
But I didn't have time to argue.
Then the entire room changed.
Because someone behind them spoke.
"What's happening?"
Nobody raised their voice.
Nobody needed to.
The effect was immediate.
The guards turned.
The conversations stopped.
The air changed.
Adrien Moretti had arrived.
I had seen him before from a distance.
But never like this.
He walked into the room wearing a black suit that looked perfectly fitted, his dark hair slightly messy, his expression unreadable.
He wasn't the loud kind of powerful.
He didn't need to be.
Everyone moved because he expected them to.
His eyes traveled across the room.
The broken pipe.
The flooded floor.
The employees standing frozen.
Then me.
For one second, I forgot how to breathe.
Because Adrien Moretti was looking directly at me.
"Maya Collins."
My heart dropped.
He knew my name.
Of course he knew my name.
People like him knew everything.
I tightened my grip on the mop.
"Mr. Moretti, I can explain."
He didn't answer.
He walked closer.
Every step made me more nervous.
I prepared myself.
The anger.
The accusation.
The order to leave.
Instead, he looked down at the water near his shoes.
Then back at me.
"How long has this been happening?"
I swallowed.
"About ten minutes."
"Why didn't you call anyone?"
Because everyone was afraid.
Because nobody wanted to interrupt his meeting.
Because I knew the moment I called for help, people would blame me.
But I didn't say any of that.
"I thought I could handle it."
Something changed in his expression.
Not anger.
Something else.
Something I couldn't understand.
Before he could answer, one of the guards stepped forward.
"Sir, she should have reported it immediately."
I expected Adrien to agree.
Instead, he looked at the man.
"She was trying to prevent damage."
The guard stopped talking.
I looked up.
That wasn't what I expected.
Not even close.
Adrien turned away.
"Call maintenance. Shut down the pipe."
Everyone moved immediately.
And for a strange moment, I thought maybe the worst was over.
I was wrong.
Because when I turned back toward the floor, I saw something floating near the broken conference table.
A small piece of wood.
Probably from the damaged furniture.
I reached down and picked it up.
At first, I thought it was just a scratch.
Then I saw the letters.
Three small words carved into the wood.
She knows everything.
My fingers went cold.
I looked around.
Nobody else seemed to notice.
Except Adrien.
His eyes were already on the piece of wood in my hand.
The room became silent.
"Where did you find that?" he asked.
His voice was different now.
Not calm.
Not angry.
Concerned.
I slowly handed it to him.
"I thought it was just damage."
Adrien stared at the words.
The color in his face changed slightly.
The eight men around him noticed.
They exchanged looks.
Because whatever those words meant...
Adrien Moretti knew.
And suddenly, this wasn't about a broken pipe anymore.
"Maya," he said quietly.
I looked at him.
"Before tonight... did anyone ask you to enter this room?"
My stomach tightened.
"No."
A pause.
Then he asked the question that made everyone freeze.
"Then why was your name written inside it?"
I looked back at the wooden piece.
My name.
It wasn't written there.
But somehow, Adrien looked like he already knew something I didn't.
Before I could answer, the lights inside the mansion suddenly went out.
The room fell into darkness.
Then my phone vibrated.
A message appeared from an unknown number.
Three words.
"Run from him."
I looked up at Adrien.
May you like
But before I could say anything, the conference room door slowly opened from the outside...
And someone standing in the darkness whispered my name.
