Chapter 13 - The Man Who Ordered My Family Destroyed

Victor expected panic.
I gave him none.
Because Marcus had prepared for this.
The mansion in the video was real.
Elena was real.
Noah was real.
But the intruder wasn't controlling them.
Marcus's team was.
The video had been intercepted.
Victor didn't know.
I smiled.
His expression changed.
"What?"
"You've already lost."
The hotel windows shattered.
My men entered.
Victor ran.
I chased him.
Down stairs.
Through kitchens.
Into the underground garage.
He fired twice.
Missed.
I tackled him.
For three years, I had imagined killing the man responsible for Hannah.
Now he lay beneath me.
Bleeding.
Terrified.
My gun pressed against his chest.
"Do it," he whispered.
I thought of Hannah.
Noah.
Elena.
Then I lowered the weapon.
"No."
His smile vanished.
"You're going to live long enough to watch everything you built disappear."
Police and federal agents took him.
For once, I allowed the law to finish what violence had started.
But Victor had one final move.
During interrogation, he revealed a secondary team.
Their target was Noah's school.
The attack was scheduled for the following morning.
Noah wasn't attending.
But dozens of children would be.
We gave authorities everything.
The team was intercepted.
Then one name appeared among the arrested men.
Davis.
The guard supposedly knocked unconscious during Noah's kidnapping.
He had been Victor's man inside my house.
Not Marcus.
Not Caleb.
Not Raymond.
Davis had opened doors.
Erased cameras.
Moved information.
The traitor had been someone I barely noticed.
That bothered me more than betrayal from someone close.
That evening, we finally sat together.
No guns on the table.
No alarms.
Elena's mother recovering upstairs.
Caleb alive.
Raymond bruised but forgiven enough to remain.
Marcus drinking my best whiskey without permission.
Noah sat beside Elena.
Then the doorbell rang.
Everyone froze.
Marcus checked the camera.
His expression changed.
"Preston."
"What now?"
"There's a woman outside."
May you like
"So?"
"She says she's Hannah Hale."
