Chapter 6 - The Name Written On The Birth Certificate

A woman stood in the doorway holding an old birth certificate, saying: "Elara, your entire life was built on a lie."
When Vadim Sokolov approached her, he discovered a second name written beside Elara’s birth information.
Three words were written underneath:
"Father: Adrian Vale."
Vadim realized the person who destroyed Elara’s childhood had not only hidden the truth.
They had replaced it.
The woman standing in the doorway did not move.
Neither did anyone else.
Elara stared at the birth certificate in her hand.
The paper looked ordinary.
Old.
Fragile.
Almost meaningless.
But those few words had the power to destroy everything she thought she knew.
Her father.
Her mother.
Her childhood.
Her identity.
All of it had been controlled by people who decided she was not allowed to know the truth.
"Who are you?"
Elara finally asked.
The woman looked at her with sadness.
"My name is Claire Vale."
Adrian’s sister.
The name immediately changed the atmosphere.
Vadim noticed Taras step backward.
A small movement.
But enough.
Because Taras Fagan was not afraid of many people.
And he was afraid of Claire.
"Why are you here?"
Vadim’s voice was cold.
Claire looked at him.
"Because someone has to tell Elara what happened before everyone who knows the truth disappears."
Elara looked at the birth certificate again.
"Why does it say Adrian?"
Claire walked closer.
"Because Adrian is your biological father."
The words hurt.
Even though Elara had already suspected it.
Hearing them spoken made them real.
She looked toward Taras.
Her voice became quiet.
"You knew."
Taras said nothing.
That silence was an answer.
"You knew all these years."
Taras looked away.
"I was trying to protect you."
Elara laughed softly.
But there was no happiness in it.
"Everyone keeps saying that."
Her eyes filled with tears.
"But nobody ever protected me."
The room became silent.
Vadim watched her.
He had seen Elara broken before.
But this was different.
Before, she had been hurt by insults.
Now she was being crushed by the realization that her entire life had been rewritten.
Claire looked at Taras.
"You promised her mother you would keep her safe."
Taras’s expression changed.
"You don't know what happened."
"I know exactly what happened."
Claire stepped forward.
"You took a frightened young woman and convinced her that everyone she trusted was dangerous."
Taras shook his head.
"No."
"You erased Adrian."
"No."
"You made Elara believe she was unwanted."
Taras’s voice became louder.
"I saved her!"
The sudden anger shocked everyone.
Even Taras seemed surprised by his own reaction.
Vadim immediately noticed.
People usually became emotional when they were close to the truth.
"Saved her from what?"
Vadim asked.
Nobody answered.
That was the question everyone avoided.
Elara looked at Claire.
"Tell me."
Claire hesitated.
"Your mother discovered something about your father."
Elara looked at Taras.
"What?"
Claire took a breath.
"Taras was involved with people who wanted control over Adrian's family."
Vadim’s eyes narrowed.
"Control how?"
Claire looked at him.
"Through secrets."
The answer was vague.
Too vague.
Vadim hated vague answers.
"Be specific."
Claire looked down.
"Adrian was not just a businessman."
Elara frowned.
"What does that mean?"
Claire looked at her.
"Your father was connected to powerful families who handled problems quietly."
Vadim understood.
Not because he knew the exact details.
Because he lived in a world where silence had a price.
"And your mother?"
Claire’s expression changed.
"Your mother tried to expose them."
Elara closed her eyes.
Another piece of her life disappeared.
Another truth replaced another lie.
"Did my mother leave me?"
Claire immediately shook her head.
"No."
The answer was instant.
"She fought for you until the end."
Elara looked at the floor.
"Then why wasn't she here?"
Nobody answered.
Until Claire whispered:
"Because someone made sure she couldn't return."
The room became completely silent.
Vadim looked at Taras.
The older man looked exhausted.
Not angry.
Not powerful.
Just guilty.
"You knew where she was."
Taras didn’t respond.
Vadim stepped closer.
"You knew."
Finally, Taras spoke.
"I found her after the accident."
Elara froze.
"What accident?"
Taras looked at her.
And for the first time, he looked ashamed.
"Your mother was supposed to leave with Adrian."
Claire closed her eyes.
"Taras..."
But he continued.
"They were going to take you away."
Elara stared.
"Take me away?"
"From everyone."
Taras swallowed.
"Your mother believed she could protect you."
"And you stopped her."
The words came from Elara.
Not as a question.
As a realization.
Taras looked at her.
"I thought I was saving you."
"You stole my life."
Her voice was quiet.
But it carried more pain than anger.
"You let me believe my mother didn't want me."
Taras looked down.
"I was wrong."
The apology came too late.
Much too late.
Vadim moved beside Elara.
Not touching her.
Just standing there.
Letting her know she was not alone.
Then his phone rang.
His security team.
He answered immediately.
"Speak."
The voice on the other side sounded nervous.
"Sir, we found something in the mansion archives."
"What?"
"A hidden file."
Vadim looked toward Elara.
"About what?"
A pause.
Then:
"About the night Elara was born."
Vadim’s expression changed.
"Bring it to me."
The security officer hesitated.
"Sir..."
"What?"
"The file wasn't hidden by Taras Fagan."
Everyone heard the silence.
Vadim’s eyes narrowed.
"Then who hid it?"
The answer came quietly.
"It was hidden by Adrian Vale."
The room changed instantly.
Elara looked at Claire.
Claire looked shocked.
Because she knew.
That was impossible.
Adrian had spent years searching for the truth.
Why would he hide it?
Unless there was something he never wanted Elara to discover.
Minutes later, the file arrived.
Inside was a collection of documents.
Photos.
Letters.
And one final recording.
Vadim placed it on the table.
"Do you want to hear it?"
Elara looked terrified.
But she nodded.
The recording started.
A man’s voice filled the room.
Adrian.
"If you are hearing this, then I failed."
Elara covered her mouth.
His voice continued.
"I wanted to tell you everything."
A pause.
"But I couldn't."
Vadim watched the device carefully.
Then Adrian said the sentence that changed everything.
"Because the person who betrayed your mother was not Taras Fagan."
Everyone froze.
The recording continued.
"It was someone much closer to you."
Elara looked around the room.
Her heart racing.
Then Adrian whispered:
"The person who raised you was never the person who saved you."
The recording stopped.
Nobody moved.
Nobody spoke.
Until Vadim noticed something on the final page of the hidden file.
A handwritten note.
Not from Adrian.
Not from Taras.
From someone else.
A name.
A name Elara had never heard before.
And underneath it:
"I am the reason your mother disappeared."
May you like
Vadim slowly turned the page.
Because behind the note was a photograph of the person who wrote it... and Elara recognized the face immediately.
