Chapter 8 - The Life He Was Meant To Have

The message stayed on Eli’s phone.
I am not dead. I have been waiting for you.
For a long moment, nobody moved.
Nobody spoke.
Because after everything they had discovered, after twelve years of secrets, lies, and unanswered questions, those seven words changed everything again.
Eli stared at the screen.
His hands were shaking.
Not because he was afraid.
Because somewhere deep inside him, a part of him had been waiting for those words his entire life.
Someone was waiting for him.
Someone knew he existed.
Someone remembered him.
"Where did this come from?"
Miles Keane immediately checked the phone.
"No signal."
He looked confused.
"That shouldn't be possible."
Adrian stepped closer.
"It's not a normal message."
Miles looked at him.
"Then what is it?"
Adrian didn't answer.
For the first time since Eli met him, the man who seemed to know everything looked uncertain.
Silas walked toward the screen showing the abandoned room.
His eyes remained fixed on the image.
"Daniel."
The name carried years of pain.
Eli looked at him.
"My father?"
Silas nodded.
"Yes."
"Then we find him."
The room became quiet.
Miles looked at Eli.
"You understand what this means?"
Eli nodded slowly.
"I spent my whole life looking for someone who wanted me."
His voice became steadier.
"Now I know someone does."
Silas looked at him.
Not as a powerful man.
Not as someone protecting an important secret.
As someone who had failed a child he loved.
"I should have found you sooner."
Eli looked at him.
For a moment, he saw the guilt in Silas's eyes.
The same guilt that had followed him for twelve years.
"You tried."
Silas looked surprised.
Eli continued.
"I know you did."
Those words almost broke the man.
Because forgiveness was something Silas never expected to receive.
Miles cleared his throat.
"We need to focus."
Everyone turned.
"The room in the video."
He pointed toward the screen.
"If Daniel created a backup plan, that location is where he wanted us to go."
Adrian nodded.
"He always planned three steps ahead."
Miles looked at him.
"And you?"
Adrian looked away.
"I knew about the room."
The silence returned.
Silas's expression hardened.
"You knew?"
Adrian looked at him.
"I knew where Daniel hid the evidence."
"Then why didn't you tell me?"
"Because if I told you, they would know I had it."
Miles stepped closer.
"Who is they?"
Adrian looked around the room.
Then finally answered.
"The people who tried to erase Elian."
Eli looked at him.
"Who?"
Adrian's expression became serious.
"The person closest to Daniel."
Everyone waited.
Then Adrian said:
"Your mother."
The room froze.
Eli felt like the ground disappeared.
"No."
Adrian looked at him.
"I know what you think."
"Then don't say it."
"Eli..."
"No."
His voice cracked.
"My mother protected me."
Adrian stayed silent.
Because he knew Eli was right.
And wrong.
At the same time.
Silas stepped forward.
"Adrian, explain."
Adrian sighed.
"Elena didn't betray him."
Eli looked up.
"What?"
"She was forced."
The tension changed.
Adrian continued.
"Your mother discovered who was behind everything. She tried to expose them."
"Then why did everyone think she was involved?"
"Because the person behind it made sure the evidence pointed toward her."
Miles understood.
"A setup."
Adrian nodded.
"Exactly."
Silas looked down.
"I should have known."
"No."
Adrian looked at him.
"You were manipulated too."
For years, Silas had carried blame for things he couldn't control.
Now, finally, the truth was becoming clear.
They weren't abandoned.
They were separated.
There was a difference.
An hour later, they arrived at the old property.
The place from the video.
The place Eli remembered without remembering.
The building was hidden far away from any road.
Forgotten.
Silent.
Miles entered first.
Silas stayed beside Eli.
Not ahead.
Beside him.
A small detail.
But Eli noticed.
Inside, everything was exactly as the video showed.
The old room.
The drawing on the wall.
The red toy car.
Eli walked slowly.
His fingers touched the toy.
And suddenly, memories returned.
Not all at once.
Pieces.
A woman's laugh.
A man's voice.
A hand holding his.
A promise.
"We'll come back for you."
Eli closed his eyes.
A tear fell.
Not because he was sad.
Because for the first time, he remembered being loved.
"Your father left something here."
Adrian pointed toward the wall.
Behind the drawing was a hidden compartment.
Miles opened it.
Inside was a small box.
No lock.
No code.
Only a name.
Elian.
Eli touched it.
Inside was a letter.
The paper was old.
But the handwriting was clear.
My son,
If you are reading this, then someone finally helped you find your way home.
Eli stopped.
His breathing became uneven.
The letter continued.
I don't know how old you are when you read this. I don't know what they told you. I don't know if you remember me.
But I need you to know one thing.
You were never abandoned.
Never.
Eli held the letter tighter.
Your mother fought for you.
Silas protected you.
And even when the world tried to erase your name, you were still my son.
A father is not someone who is always there.
A father is someone who never stops searching.
Eli wiped his eyes.
The final part of the letter explained everything.
Daniel had discovered the person leaking information.
A trusted advisor inside his organization.
Someone who wanted control of everything.
The attack on the family.
The disappearance.
The false evidence.
All part of one plan.
But Elena escaped with Eli.
She hid him.
She created a new identity.
Eli Carter.
A name designed to protect him.
Not erase him.
The final sentence was simple.
I hope someone finds you before you forget how much you are loved.
Eli lowered the letter.
Nobody spoke.
Because there was nothing to say.
The truth had finally arrived.
Months later, everything changed.
The people responsible for what happened were exposed.
The evidence Daniel saved helped reveal the entire plan.
Silas rebuilt his life differently.
Not around power.
Around family.
Eli no longer slept in abandoned places.
No longer wondered where he belonged.
He had a home.
A room.
A family.
Things that once felt impossible.
Miles remained close.
Not as a guard.
Not as someone protecting a mission.
As someone Eli trusted.
One evening, Eli sat outside with Silas.
The older man looked at him.
"You know, you don't have to become like me."
Eli smiled.
"Good."
Silas laughed softly.
"I was worried you would say you wanted to."
Eli looked at the sky.
"I don't want power."
"What do you want?"
Eli thought for a moment.
Then answered:
"I want people to feel like they matter."
Silas smiled.
Because that was exactly who Elian had always been.
Not the heir.
Not the name.
Not the person everyone wanted to control.
Just a boy who saw someone dying and chose to help.
Years later, Eli would still remember the night in the forest.
The grave.
The cold.
The fear.
But he would remember something else too.
A choice.
A stone thrown into the darkness.
A decision to save someone when nobody else would.
Because that choice didn't just save Silas Ror.
It brought Eli Carter home.
It gave him back the name he lost.
May you like
The family he thought was gone.
And the life he was always meant to have.
