Chapter 5 - The Secret Beneath The Name

The door opened.

Nobody moved.

The hallway beyond was empty.

But everyone in the room knew one thing.

Someone had just entered a place they were never supposed to enter.

Miles Keane immediately stepped in front of Eli.

Not because he thought the boy was weak.

Because he knew exactly who people came after when they couldn't reach the person they wanted.

The screens continued flashing.

ACCESS GRANTED.

The security officer stared at the control panel.

"I don't understand."

Miles didn't look away from the hallway.

"Who has access?"

The officer swallowed.

"Only five people."

"Name them."

The officer hesitated.

"Silas. Harper. You. The head of security. And..."

He stopped.

Miles turned.

"And who?"

The officer looked uncomfortable.

"The emergency administrator."

Silence.

Miles narrowed his eyes.

"Who is that?"

Nobody answered.

Then Silas spoke from behind them.

"Me."

Everyone turned.

Silas stood near the medical room entrance.

His face was pale, but his eyes were focused.

"I created that account years ago."

Miles looked at him.

"You never told me."

"Because nobody was supposed to know it existed."

A cold feeling moved through the room.

Eli looked between them.

"So someone used your secret account?"

Silas looked at him.

"Yes."

"Can they do that?"

Silas didn't answer.

That was the answer.

Miles moved toward the security panel.

"Lock every entrance."

The officer typed quickly.

Nothing happened.

He tried again.

Still nothing.

Then every screen changed.

The security cameras disappeared.

A single video file appeared.

No title.

No information.

Just a timestamp.

Twelve years earlier.

Eli looked at the screen.

His stomach tightened.

He didn't know why.

But something inside him recognized that date.

"Play it."

Silas's voice was quiet.

Nobody argued.

The video began.

At first, there was only darkness.

Then an image appeared.

A room.

A small child’s room.

A toy car on the floor.

A woman sitting beside a bed.

Eli stopped breathing.

He knew that room.

Not because he remembered it clearly.

Because some part of him did.

The woman turned toward the camera.

Her face was blurry.

But her voice was clear.

"If you are watching this, it means they found him."

Silas closed his eyes.

Harper covered her mouth.

Miles looked at them.

"You know this video."

Silas didn't respond.

The woman continued.

"He doesn't know who he is."

The camera moved closer.

The child in the bed turned.

Eli stepped backward.

It was him.

A younger version.

Smaller.

Different clothes.

Same face.

The woman placed a hand on the child's head.

"I tried to protect him."

Her voice shook.

"But I couldn't protect him forever."

The video paused suddenly.

Everyone looked confused.

Then a message appeared.

FILE INTERRUPTED.

Miles immediately checked the system.

"Someone stopped it."

"Can you recover it?"

The officer shook his head.

"No."

Miles looked at Silas.

"Who knows about this file?"

Silas remained silent.

That silence was enough.

Miles stepped closer.

"Silas."

Finally, the older man answered.

"Three people."

"Who?"

Silas looked toward Eli.

"Clara."

Eli looked up.

"The woman in the video?"

Silas nodded.

"My closest friend."

Harper looked away.

"And the second person?"

Silas didn't answer.

Miles already knew.

"Harper."

The room became quiet.

Eli looked at her.

"You knew?"

Harper looked at him.

Her eyes were filled with guilt.

"I knew about the video."

"Then why didn't you tell me?"

Harper opened her mouth.

Nothing came out.

Because there was no answer that could make it better.

Miles watched her carefully.

"You knew this boy existed."

Harper whispered:

"Yes."

"And you let him live on the street?"

Her eyes closed.

"No."

The answer came immediately.

Too quickly.

"I thought he was gone."

Eli stared at her.

"Gone?"

Harper looked at him.

"I thought someone killed you."

The room went silent.

Eli looked down.

For years, he had wondered why nobody searched for him.

Why nobody came.

Why nobody cared.

But now he was learning something worse.

Someone had searched.

Someone had tried.

And somehow, he had still disappeared.

Miles looked at Silas.

"Tell me everything."

Silas walked slowly toward the table.

Twelve years.

He carried twelve years of silence in every step.

"Clara worked for me."

Eli looked at the screen.

"The woman in the video?"

"Yes."

"Why did she hide me?"

Silas looked at him.

"Because she found out someone inside my organization was planning to destroy my family."

Miles immediately reacted.

"Who?"

Silas looked away.

"We never found out."

"That's impossible."

"It isn't."

Silas's voice became harder.

"The person covered every trace."

Eli looked confused.

"What family?"

Nobody answered.

Silas looked at him.

"You."

The boy froze.

"Me?"

"You were my responsibility."

Silas paused.

"Your parents trusted me."

The words hit Eli differently.

Parents.

A word he barely remembered.

"My parents?"

Silas nodded.

"They died protecting you."

Eli looked away.

He didn't cry.

He had learned not to.

But Miles saw his hands shaking.

A child who had spent years alone had just learned he wasn't abandoned.

He had been hidden.

There was a difference.

Suddenly, a sound came from the hallway.

Footsteps.

Slow.

Calm.

Everyone turned.

Miles reached for his weapon.

The footsteps stopped.

Then a voice came from the darkness.

"Silas."

Nobody moved.

Because everyone recognized the voice.

Silas's face changed.

Not fear.

Something worse.

Pain.

"Impossible."

Harper whispered:

"No..."

Miles looked at them.

"Who is it?"

Silas didn't answer.

The person stepped into the emergency light.

An older man.

Gray hair.

Calm expression.

Someone who looked like he belonged there.

Someone who knew exactly where every camera was.

Every door.

Every secret.

Eli stared at him.

Because he had seen that face before.

Not in a memory.

In the forest.

The same person who had been watching the grave.

The man smiled slightly.

Then looked directly at Eli.

"You finally found him."

Miles moved forward.

"Who are you?"

The man ignored him.

His eyes stayed on Silas.

"You spent twelve years protecting the wrong child."

Silas went completely still.

The man reached into his coat.

Everyone prepared for the worst.

But he didn't pull out a weapon.

He pulled out an old photograph.

He placed it on the table.

Then he said:

"Silas, you need to show him what happened the night Clara disappeared."

Silas looked at the photograph.

And for the first time since Eli met him...

The powerful man looked terrified.

May you like

Because on the back of the photograph was a name.

A name that was supposed to have died twelve years ago.
