Chapter 1 - The Maid Behind The Cameras

A young woman stood inside a locked office, holding a torn photograph: "Why was my name written behind this?" When billionaire Damian Costa arrived, he discovered a broken security badge belonging to his own mansion employee. But three words were scratched into the back: "Trust nobody here." Damian suddenly realized this wasn't a simple security breach.

For eight days, Damian Costa watched me without my knowledge.

I did not know his mansion had nearly a hundred cameras hidden behind walls, mirrors, and ceiling panels.

I did not know the man sitting beneath his estate every night had memorized my every movement.

To him, I was just another employee.

A $12-an-hour maid who cleaned rooms, folded expensive clothes, and disappeared before the wealthy guests arrived.

But Damian Costa had built his entire life around one rule.

Never trust anyone.

His San Francisco estate was not just a home.

It was a fortress.

Steel doors.

Private security.

Biometric locks.

Cameras covering every hallway.

Every person who entered his world was watched.

Including me.

My name was Sofia Bennett.

I was twenty-six years old when I accepted the job as a live-in maid at the Costa mansion.

I needed money.

That was the simple truth.

My mother’s medical bills had drained everything I had saved, and working normal jobs was no longer enough.

When the agency offered me a position at one of the richest houses in California, I thought I had been lucky.

I was wrong.

The first day I entered the mansion, I noticed something strange.

Nobody smiled.

The guards watched employees more than strangers.

The house manager checked every drawer after we finished cleaning.

And every room felt like someone was listening.

I quickly learned the name everyone whispered.

Damian Costa.

The billionaire who owned technology companies, private investments, and half the buildings people walked past every day.

People called him ruthless.

Cold.

A man who could destroy someone’s career with one phone call.

But nobody knew the truth.

Nobody knew Damian spent every night sitting alone in a dark room beneath his mansion.

Watching.

Waiting.

Searching for betrayal.

The surveillance room was his sanctuary.

Six massive monitors covered the wall.

Each screen showed a different part of his estate.

The kitchen.

The bedrooms.

The halls.

The garden.

The garage.

Everything.

And on the eighth day of my employment, Damian noticed something.

I was not behaving like the other workers.

The other employees avoided certain rooms.

I did not.

The others followed orders without questions.

I asked questions.

And that made Damian suspicious.

That afternoon, I was assigned to clean the old library.

A room nobody had entered in years.

The manager gave me one warning.

"Do not touch anything inside the locked cabinet."

I nodded.

But I noticed something.

The cabinet was not locked because it contained something valuable.

It was locked because someone was afraid someone would find it.

When I cleaned behind the bookshelf, my hand touched something hidden.

A small metal box.

Inside was an old photograph.

A young Damian stood beside a woman I had never seen before.

Behind the photograph was a message.

Three words.

Trust nobody here.

I stared at it.

Because the handwriting looked familiar.

It looked exactly like the handwriting on a letter my mother left before she died.

And that was impossible.

My mother had never met Damian Costa.

At least...

that was what I believed.

I placed the photograph back.

But one thing changed.

I stopped seeing the mansion as a workplace.

I started seeing it as a crime scene.

Across the estate, inside the hidden surveillance room, Damian watched the entire thing.

He saw me find the photograph.

He saw my expression change.

And for the first time in eight days, Damian Costa leaned closer to the screen.

Because the woman he hired to clean his mansion had just discovered a secret he spent twenty years hiding.

He whispered:

"Who are you?"

The next morning, Damian opened a file he had never touched before.

The file had my name on it.

May you like

And inside was a photograph of me standing beside someone who was supposed to be dead...
