Chapter 6 - The Enemy Who Wanted to Take Lily Away

Aleandro Moretti had faced danger his entire life.

He had walked into rooms where everyone wanted him to fail.

He had sat across from men who smiled while planning his downfall.

He had survived betrayals from people he trusted.

But none of those moments prepared him for the fear he felt when he looked at Lily sleeping on the couch and realized someone had been watching her for years.

Not him.

Not Sarah.

Someone else.

Someone who knew about his daughter before he even knew she existed.

The thought followed him everywhere.

At his office.

In his car.

During meetings.

Even when he closed his eyes at night.

Because Aleandro understood something most people did not.

Information was never collected without a reason.

People did not secretly monitor a child because they were curious.

They did it because they wanted something.

And now, Aleandro needed to know what that something was.

The next morning, Vincent arrived at the private residence before sunrise.

The house was usually silent at that hour.

Cold.

Empty.

A place designed for business meetings, not family.

But everything had changed.

On the kitchen counter sat a small drawing.

Three people holding hands.

Aleandro stopped when he saw it.

The drawing had been left there by Lily the night before.

She had insisted he take it home.

“For your office,” she had said.

“Why?”

“So you remember us.”

Those words stayed with him.

Because Aleandro Moretti had spent years surrounded by people who wanted him to remember deals.

Numbers.

Promises.

Threats.

Nobody had ever asked him to remember them.

Vincent noticed him staring.

“She made that?”

Aleandro nodded.

“She said it belongs here.”

Vincent looked around the large, expensive kitchen.

Then at the small piece of paper.

“It looks strange here.”

Aleandro looked at him.

“What do you mean?”

“This house has never had anything personal.”

A pause.

“Now it does.”

Aleandro looked back at the drawing.

For the first time in years, he understood what home was supposed to feel like.

Not expensive furniture.

Not security systems.

Not a view of the city.

Something simple.

Something fragile.

Something worth protecting.

Then Vincent’s expression changed.

The moment was gone.

“Boss.”

Aleandro knew that tone.

“What happened?”

Vincent placed a tablet on the counter.

“We traced the medical records.”

Aleandro immediately focused.

“And?”

“Anthony Vale wasn’t just connected to the clinic.”

He tapped the screen.

“He funded it.”

Aleandro’s jaw tightened.

“How long?”

“Seven years.”

The number made him pause.

Seven years.

Before Lily was born.

Before Sarah disappeared.

Before he even knew there was a secret.

“Why would he fund a medical program connected to my daughter?”

Vincent hesitated.

“We found another connection.”

Aleandro looked at him.

“Say it.”

Vincent took a breath.

“Anthony Vale had information on you before you became powerful.”

Silence.

That was not what Aleandro expected.

Everyone knew about him now.

But before?

Before he built his empire?

Before his name carried weight?

Very few people cared.

“Why?”

Vincent looked at the tablet.

“Because Vale collects people’s weaknesses.”

Aleandro’s expression darkened.

“He collects secrets.”

“Yes.”

“And Lily…”

Vincent nodded.

“She was a secret.”

A dangerous silence filled the room.

Aleandro understood.

Anthony Vale did not discover Lily by accident.

He had been searching.

Watching.

Waiting.

The question was why.

Sarah knew something was wrong the moment Aleandro walked through the door that afternoon.

Not because he looked angry.

That would have been easier.

She had seen anger before.

Anger was simple.

Aleandro looked controlled.

And that was when he was most dangerous.

Lily was sitting on the floor building a tower with colorful blocks.

“Look!”

She held up the tower proudly.

“It’s taller than me.”

Aleandro smiled slightly.

“I believe you.”

Sarah noticed the smile.

A real one.

A smile only Lily could create.

But when he looked at Sarah, it disappeared.

“Can we talk?”

Her heart sank.

She nodded.

They stepped into the kitchen.

“What happened?”

Aleandro looked toward Lily before answering.

“Someone has been monitoring her since before she was born.”

Sarah went still.

“What?”

“The medical records weren’t routine.”

Her face changed.

“I don’t understand.”

“Someone paid for them.”

Sarah stared at him.

“Who?”

Aleandro said the name.

“Anthony Vale.”

The color drained from her face.

“You know him?”

“No.”

The answer surprised her.

“Then why does he know about us?”

Aleandro looked at her.

“Because he has been collecting information about me.”

Sarah felt a cold feeling move through her.

“And Lily became part of that?”

“Yes.”

She looked toward her daughter.

“No.”

The word came out immediately.

“No one gets near her.”

Aleandro heard the fear in her voice.

The same fear she carried when she left him three years ago.

But this time, she was not running from him.

She was trying to protect their child.

“I won’t let anything happen to her.”

Sarah looked at him.

“You don’t understand.”

Her voice cracked.

“You have people. You have power. You have money.”

A tear formed in her eyes.

“But Lily has only ever had me.”

Aleandro became quiet.

Because he understood.

Sarah was not questioning his ability.

She was reminding him that protecting someone was different from owning their safety.

“You think I’m like them.”

Sarah looked away.

“I think your world is dangerous.”

Aleandro nodded slowly.

“You’re right.”

She looked surprised.

He continued.

“My world is dangerous.”

A pause.

“But Lily is not entering my world.”

His voice became firm.

“I’m changing mine.”

Those words affected her more than she expected.

Because they were not the words of a powerful man.

They were the words of a father.

That night, Aleandro made a decision.

A decision Vincent knew would change everything.

“No more hiding.”

Vincent looked at him.

“You’re sure?”

“Yes.”

“Boss, if people know about her…”

“They already know.”

Aleandro looked at the city outside his office.

“For three years, someone watched my daughter while I didn’t even know she existed.”

His expression hardened.

“That ends now.”

Vincent nodded.

“What’s the plan?”

Aleandro turned around.

“We move Sarah and Lily somewhere secure.”

“Safe house?”

“No.”

Vincent frowned.

“No?”

Aleandro shook his head.

“A safe house means running.”

He looked at the drawing Lily gave him.

“I’m done running.”

The next morning, Sarah packed quietly.

Lily watched with confusion.

“Are we moving?”

Sarah smiled gently.

“For a little while.”

“Where?”

Before Sarah could answer, the door opened.

Aleandro entered.

Lily immediately ran toward him.

“Daddy!”

The word still affected him.

Every single time.

He picked her up carefully.

“You ready for an adventure?”

Her eyes widened.

“What kind?”

“A place where you can have a bigger room.”

Lily thought about it.

“Can Mommy come?”

Aleandro looked at Sarah.

“Yes.”

Lily smiled.

“Then okay.”

Simple.

Trusting.

Pure.

Aleandro carried her toward the door.

But before they left, his phone rang.

Vincent.

Aleandro answered.

“What?”

The silence on the other end lasted too long.

“What happened?”

Vincent’s voice was low.

“We found Anthony Vale.”

“And?”

“He’s not trying to hide anymore.”

Aleandro’s eyes narrowed.

“What does that mean?”

Vincent answered:

“He sent a message.”

Aleandro waited.

Then Vincent said the words:

“He knows Lily is your daughter.”

Aleandro looked at Lily.

The little girl was holding his hand.

The same hand she asked for days ago.

The hand that changed his life.

“What did he say?”

Vincent hesitated.

Then:

“He said the child was never supposed to belong to you.”

The air became still.

Aleandro’s face turned cold.

For years, people had threatened his money.

His power.

His reputation.

But nobody had ever threatened his family.

Nobody had ever touched the one thing he had just found.

He looked down at Lily.

Then at Sarah.

And something inside him changed.

The old Aleandro Moretti would have responded as a businessman.

The new one responded as a father.

“Tell Vale something.”

Vincent waited.

Aleandro’s voice was quiet.

But there was no doubt in it.

“Lily was without me for five years.”

A pause.

“But she will never be without me again.”

He ended the call.

Outside, the city continued moving.

Cars passed.

People walked.

Life continued.

But somewhere in New York, Anthony Vale had just made the biggest mistake of his life.

He had reminded Aleandro Moretti why he had spent years becoming powerful.

Not for money.

Not for respect.

Not for fear.

For the people he loved.

May you like

And now, he had given Aleandro something even more dangerous than anger.

A reason.
