Chapter 1 - The Cameras That Changed Everything

A little girl clung to a suitcase in the mansion hallway, crying:
"Please don't leave us, Daddy!"
When I arrived at the security room hours later, I discovered a missing camera file from the night I left my daughters.
But one saved recording had a strange timestamp written beside it:
"Do not let him see this."
I suddenly realized Rosa was never the person I needed to fear.
I had spent the last three months believing the wrong person.
That was the part that hurt the most.
Not the accusation.
Not the lies.
The fact that I had looked into the eyes of the woman who had protected my children for years and wondered if she was capable of destroying my family.
My name was Adrian Cole.
I was forty-two years old, the founder of a successful technology company, and the kind of man people assumed had everything figured out.
A beautiful mansion.
A thriving business.
Two daughters who were my entire world.
And a woman I believed would become my wife.
Her name was Vanessa.
She was elegant, intelligent, and always knew exactly what to say. When she entered a room, people noticed her. She understood business conversations, social events, and the image I had spent years building.
At least, that was what I believed.
The first time Vanessa told me something was wrong with Rosa, I laughed.
I honestly thought it was impossible.
Rosa had worked for my family for eleven years.
She had been there when my first daughter, Lily, was born.
She had held my youngest daughter, Emma, through countless nightmares.
She knew their favorite foods, their fears, their dreams, and every little habit that made them who they were.
She wasn't just an employee.
She was family.
"Adrian, you need to stop being so trusting," Vanessa told me one evening while we sat in the living room.
I looked up from my laptop.
"What are you talking about?"
She lowered her voice.
"Rosa."
I frowned.
"What about Rosa?"
Vanessa looked toward the hallway where my daughters were playing.
"She has been filling their heads with things."
I closed my laptop.
"What things?"
She hesitated just long enough to make me uncomfortable.
"Things about me."
I stared at her.
"Vanessa, Rosa would never do that."
Her expression changed.
Not anger.
Not sadness.
Something more calculated.
"That's exactly why you're not seeing it."
Those words stayed in my mind.
Because Vanessa didn't accuse Rosa once.
She built a story.
A small comment here.
A suspicious look there.
A missing piece of jewelry that was later "found."
A document that was supposedly moved from my office.
A conversation she claimed she overheard between Rosa and my daughters.
Every detail seemed small.
But together, Vanessa made them feel impossible to ignore.
Then came the day everything changed.
I came home early from work and found Vanessa sitting with a worried expression.
Rosa was standing near the kitchen.
My daughters were upstairs.
"What happened?" I asked.
Vanessa immediately looked at Rosa.
"I didn't want to believe it either."
Rosa's face went pale.
"Believe what?"
Vanessa opened her hand.
Inside was one of my expensive watches.
The one I kept in my office.
I looked at Rosa.
She looked shocked.
"Mr. Adrian, I don't know how that got there."
Vanessa sighed.
"That's what people always say when they get caught."
I remember that moment clearly.
Because Rosa didn't defend herself loudly.
She didn't scream.
She didn't cry.
She simply looked at me.
Waiting.
Waiting for me to trust her.
And I hated myself because for the first time, I hesitated.
That hesitation broke something between us.
The next morning, I made a decision.
But I didn't tell anyone the truth.
I told Vanessa I had an important business trip.
I told my daughters I would be gone for only a few days.
I packed a suitcase.
I hugged Lily and Emma near the front door.
"Daddy will be back before you know it."
Lily held onto me tightly.
"Promise?"
I smiled.
"I promise."
Behind them, Rosa stood quietly.
Her eyes looked different.
Like she knew something I didn't.
Vanessa walked beside me and kissed my cheek.
"Be careful."
Her smile looked perfect.
Too perfect.
I drove away from the mansion.
But I didn't go to the airport.
I went to a private office downtown.
The same office where my security team had installed a hidden surveillance system months earlier.
I had never used it.
Until that day.
I sat in front of six monitors.
The mansion appeared on every screen.
The living room.
The kitchen.
The hallway.
My office.
My daughters' playroom.
Every place where the truth could hide.
At first, everything looked normal.
Rosa helped Emma with her homework.
Lily sat beside her drawing pictures.
Vanessa walked through the house checking her phone.
Nothing seemed wrong.
For almost two hours, I questioned myself.
Maybe I had made a mistake.
Maybe Vanessa was right.
Maybe I had been too loyal to Rosa.
Then the screen changed.
Camera four.
My office.
Vanessa entered.
Alone.
My heart slowed.
She wasn't supposed to be there.
She closed the door.
Looked around.
Then opened my desk drawer.
The same drawer where I kept confidential company files.
I leaned closer.
"What are you doing?"
She removed a folder.
My folder.
The one containing documents about my company expansion.
She photographed every page with her phone.
I froze.
But that wasn't the worst part.
A few seconds later, someone entered the room.
I expected Rosa.
Instead, it was a man I had never seen before.
Vanessa turned toward him.
And smiled.
The kind of smile she had never shown me.
My hands tightened around the edge of the desk.
The man handed her something.
A small envelope.
Vanessa opened it.
Inside was a photograph.
She looked at it.
Then she said something that made my entire body go cold.
The audio was unclear.
I increased the volume.
Static filled the room.
Then I heard her voice.
"Once Adrian signs the final papers, everything belongs to us."
I stopped breathing.
The woman I planned to marry wasn't protecting my family.
She was planning against it.
But before I could process what I had just seen, another monitor suddenly turned black.
Camera six.
The one facing my daughters' room.
A warning appeared on the screen.
Recording deleted.
Then another message appeared beneath it.
Manual access detected.
I stared at the screen.
May you like
Someone inside my mansion was deleting the evidence.
And then my phone began ringing with a call from an unknown number.
