Chapter 9 - The Last Door

The door shook.

Desmond looked at Sadi.

“Take Rebecca and go.”

“No.”

“Sadi.”

“No.”

She moved behind his wheelchair.

“We've survived too much to separate now.”

The door shook again.

Marcus blocked it.

Adrian appeared through the emergency passage.

“There's another exit.”

They moved quickly.

Rebecca carried the evidence.

Sadi pushed Desmond's wheelchair.

They reached the lower corridor.

Then Desmond stopped.

“What?”

He looked at the wall.

A hidden panel was slightly open.

Behind it was a small metal box.

He recognized the design.

His father had used it years ago.

Inside was a recording device.

Desmond pressed play.

His father's voice filled the corridor.

“If you're hearing this, you've finally found the truth.”

Desmond listened.

His father confessed everything.

The explosion.

The financial fraud.

The manipulation of Adrian.

The disappearance of Thomas.

And the medical records.

But one detail remained unexplained.

Desmond's father said:

“I never expected Sadi to survive the investigation.”

Sadi went still.

“What investigation?”

Desmond looked at her.

The recording continued.

“She was never supposed to become your caregiver.”

Sadi's face changed.

“What does that mean?”

A second voice appeared on the recording.

Thomas.

“I made sure she got the job.”

Sadi stared.

Her father had chosen her.

Not because of the money.

Not because of the agency.

Because he knew Desmond needed someone who would refuse to pity him.

The revelation changed everything.

Sadi looked at Desmond.

“You knew?”

“No.”

She exhaled.

“Neither did I.”

Then the corridor lights came on.

Desmond's father stood at the far end.

He was alone.

He looked at his son.

“You always were stubborn.”

Desmond moved forward.

“You destroyed everything.”

His father smiled.

“I built everything.”

“No.”

Desmond's voice was calm.

“You built a prison.”

His father looked at Sadi.

“And she became the key.”

Security surrounded him.

Marcus stepped forward.

“It's over.”

For the first time, Desmond's father looked afraid.

The police arrived minutes later.

The evidence was enough.

The financial records.

The hospital documents.

The recording.

The photograph.

The testimony.

Everything finally came together.

Adrian was cleared.

Thomas was reunited with Sadi.

Marcus surrendered and agreed to cooperate.

And Desmond?

He began rehabilitation.

The first week was brutal.

The second was worse.

But Sadi remained beside him.

Every morning.

Every exercise.

Every failure.

Every small victory.

One afternoon, Desmond managed to stand with support for twelve seconds.

Sadi stared at him.

“Twelve seconds.”

He breathed heavily.

“Don't make a big deal out of it.”

“Twelve seconds.”

“Sadi.”

“Twelve.”

He laughed.

Then his expression changed.

“Stay.”

She looked at him.

“I'm not going anywhere.”

But that night, Sadi received a letter.

She opened it.

Inside was one sentence.

Your father left one final secret.

Her smile disappeared.

May you like

She looked toward Desmond's room.

And slowly reached for the sealed envelope...
