Chapter 8 - The Alpha Who Found His Family Again

The older man standing in front of Arthur whispered: "I spent years trying to undo the damage I caused."

Arthur stared at him.

The face.

The voice.

The impossible truth standing before him.

It was him.

Older.

Scarred.

Broken.

But unmistakably Arthur Pendleton.

Nobody spoke.

Not Alexander.

Not Kora.

Not even Lily.

The room beneath the cathedral felt frozen in time.

Arthur looked at the man in front of him.

"Who are you?"

The older version of himself looked down.

"Your future."

The words should have sounded impossible.

Ridiculous.

But after everything Arthur had discovered, nothing felt impossible anymore.

Dead people had returned.

Hidden children had been revealed.

Five years of lies had collapsed in one night.

Arthur stepped closer.

"Explain."

The older man nodded.

"I know how this sounds."

"You have no idea."

A small sadness appeared in the older Arthur's eyes.

"I do."

He looked around the hidden room.

"Because I lived through it."

Arthur's expression hardened.

"What happened?"

The older Arthur took a deep breath.

"After Kora disappeared, after Lily was hidden, after everyone betrayed you... you became exactly what everyone feared."

Arthur said nothing.

"You became a king who trusted nobody."

The words hurt because Arthur knew they were possible.

"You destroyed every enemy."

The older Arthur continued.

"You removed every person who lied to you."

A pause.

"But you also lost the people who loved you."

Arthur looked away.

Kora quietly held Lily's hand.

The older Arthur looked at them.

"That was my greatest mistake."

Arthur stared.

"You lost them?"

The older man nodded.

"Not because they died."

His voice became heavier.

"Because I pushed them away."

Silence filled the room.

Arthur looked at Kora.

At Lily.

The family he had just found.

The family he almost lost before knowing he had them.

"Why are you here?"

The older Arthur looked toward the old documents.

"Because this room was created to prevent one future."

"Which one?"

"Mine."

Arthur waited.

The older man continued.

"My father discovered the prophecy years before Lily was born."

He looked at the child.

"He believed her power would decide the future of every Lycan family."

Arthur frowned.

"But Lily is just a child."

"Exactly."

The older Arthur's voice became firm.

"She was never supposed to carry the responsibility adults created for her."

Kora looked down.

Arthur understood.

Everyone had looked at Lily as a symbol.

A weapon.

A solution.

Nobody had looked at her as a child.

"What did my father do?"

The older Arthur answered.

"He created a plan."

"A plan to control Lily?"

"Yes."

Arthur's fists tightened.

"But Alexander stopped him."

Alexander stepped forward.

"I tried."

Arthur looked at him.

His brother lowered his head.

"I failed to protect everyone."

Arthur was silent for a moment.

Then he walked toward him.

Alexander prepared for anger.

But Arthur stopped.

"You should have told me."

"I know."

"You should have trusted me."

"I know."

Arthur looked at him.

"But you saved them."

Alexander looked surprised.

Arthur continued.

"I don't forgive everything."

Alexander nodded.

"I don't expect you to."

"But I understand."

For the first time in years, the brothers stood without anger between them.

Only pain.

Only regret.

Only the truth.

Then Arthur looked at the older version of himself.

"And my father?"

The older Arthur became quiet.

"He realized too late what he had done."

The monitor behind them suddenly activated.

An old recording appeared.

Arthur's father sat alone.

Older.

Tired.

No longer looking like a powerful leader.

Just a man carrying regret.

"Arthur."

The recording began.

"If you are watching this, then you know everything."

Arthur watched silently.

"I spent my life believing power was something you protected at all costs."

His father looked down.

"I was wrong."

A pause.

"I destroyed my family trying to control the future."

Arthur's expression softened slightly.

"I hurt Kora."

The recording continued.

"I hurt Alexander."

"And most of all..."

His father's voice broke.

"I hurt my son."

The room became silent.

"I don't ask for forgiveness."

The recording ended.

Arthur stood still.

For years, he had imagined his father's return.

He imagined anger.

Confrontation.

Revenge.

But now he only felt tired.

The kind of tiredness that came after carrying pain too long.

Kora stepped beside him.

"You don't have to carry everyone's mistakes."

Arthur looked at her.

Five years ago, he thought he would never hear those words again.

"Are you really here?"

Kora smiled sadly.

"I'm here."

Arthur looked at Lily.

"And she is really mine?"

Kora nodded.

"Yes."

Lily slowly stepped forward.

She looked at Arthur.

"Can I call you Dad?"

Arthur's eyes filled with emotion.

The Alpha King who had faced armies.

The man who had survived betrayal.

The man who had lost everything.

Could not stop one small tear.

He kneeled.

"Yes."

Lily smiled.

And for the first time in five years, Arthur felt like something inside him had finally returned.

Not power.

Not control.

Home.

Months later, the world changed.

The truth about the hidden council was revealed.

The people responsible for Kora's disappearance were removed from power.

The secret operations created by Arthur's father were destroyed.

The old system built on fear ended.

Arthur refused to repeat the mistakes of the past.

He rebuilt the Lycan council.

Not around bloodlines.

Not around power.

Around trust.

Alexander stayed by his side.

Not as someone seeking the throne.

But as a brother trying to repair what had been broken.

Beatrice also remained part of the new alliance.

She admitted she had known pieces of the truth, but she had never wanted Arthur to suffer.

Arthur forgave her.

Because after everything he learned, he understood something.

Almost everyone in his life had been controlled by fear.

Fear had created the lies.

Fear had separated families.

Fear had stolen years they could never recover.

But they could choose what happened next.

And Arthur chose his family.

One year later, Arthur stood in the same cathedral.

The same place where his life had changed forever.

But this time there were no secrets.

No hidden messages.

No lies.

Only people he loved.

Kora stood beside him.

Lily held their hands.

The little girl who had once been hidden from the world now laughed freely.

Arthur looked at Kora.

"I thought I lost you forever."

Kora smiled.

"I thought I would never come back."

He squeezed her hand.

"But you did."

She nodded.

"Because I knew you would find me."

Arthur looked around.

At his family.

At his brother.

At the people who had stayed.

The pain of the past would always exist.

But it no longer controlled him.

Later that evening, Arthur returned to the old family estate.

The hidden room beneath the cathedral was sealed forever.

The old documents were preserved as history.

Not as weapons.

Not as secrets.

Just reminders.

Reminders of what happened when people chose fear over love.

Lily ran through the garden.

Kora watched her with a smile.

Arthur stood beside her.

"You know something?"

Kora looked at him.

"What?"

"For five years, I thought finding the truth would fix everything."

"And?"

Arthur looked at his family.

"The truth didn't fix everything."

A pause.

"But it gave us the chance to."

Kora rested her head against his shoulder.

For the first time in many years, Arthur felt no need to search.

No need to fight.

No need to prove anything.

He had found what he had lost.

Not just his mate.

Not just his daughter.

But himself.

And when the world finally saw the Alpha King again, they did not see a man shaped by betrayal.

They saw a man who survived it.

A man who chose forgiveness.

May you like

A man who chose love.

A man who finally came home.
